Hi - I emailed this question to Fred. today, because I can't find it searching and I don't use facebook so can't ask on that one. Then I found this one, so I'll edit and ask ...
For the last few years on about 5%-10% of the books I enter the ISBN for, when the data are returned, the ISBN field is replaced, e.g., from '083060040x' that I entered to '(pbk.) :' (and in this case the book is HC!).
This requires me to re-enter it again to restore proper book data. It'd be good if there were a way to 'lock' that field against auto-updating since I can see no reason you'd ever want it changed.
Some other problems occur sporadically like 'broche' appearing on fields, etc., but assume that's because of imperfection in the various sources (esp. amazon with their surreal number of alleged pre-1800 books...) and their frequent changes thus I expect some editing.
The ISBN replacement is the biggest hassle though, as often I'm entering 10-20 books at a time so having to then re-sort the pile to find the ISBN again...
Does anyone know of a solution or cause for this?
I am using the latest versions of BC & data downloader and windows 7.
I've been using Bookcat for going on 20 years now, and have about 10,000 books in, with another few thousand to go (as they come out of boxes) and of course constant new buys to go. I can't imagine using anything else. I hope I can keep using it by any means for many more years (forever). It does everything I need and is logical & functional. I have no interest in a internet datamining website 'catalog'!
Thanks and appreciation from the slightly Nordic Upper Peninsula of Michigan (more Finns & Swedes than Norwegians)
//robert (now finally converting two rooms of my house to a proper library of ~13000 books!)
