I am new to this board so please forgive if I address an already known error. I have a more than an average music collection (5887 albums, 71000 tracks and 27000 persons, but still busy). When I add a new track to an album I encounter a performance issue. The first add can take minutes, the next one gives no problem. As far as I can figure out, this is an index problem. It looks like catraxx is busy reorganizing index files. My question is: is it possible to add more index files to solve this problem, or is there any other solution?

How big is your database? Images: Do you link or store them in the database? Best practice: link them to the DB.
Concerning index-files: I don't think it's possible to change the index-method of the MS-Access-Database. In fact, it is normally a very quick and reliable database.
My database has about 2.000 albums, 26.000 songs and 15.000 persons - absolutely no performance problems.

Thanks for your reaction. The size of the DB is 613,37 MB. I don't know whether I link or store them in the DB. What I do is 'Acquire image from Scanner'. Does that store them in the DB?
And my concerns about the index-files. I remember from my years as DBA with a bank (a long time ago) that this may become a performance issue. A solution then was to add one or more extra indexes to solve it. But that may be not the case here. Don't know.

You define the storage method via 'Tools - Options - Multimedia' Take a look at the attachment.

Great. I changed that to 'Link to image files'. Now the thing to do is to move all the images from DB to file, I guess. Is there a trick for that one?

Before extracting the the images and linking them, make a backup of the MDB file. And there's a couple other things to try before linking the images. 1) Repair the database TOOLS > REPAIR DATABASE Then FILE > COMPACT DATABASE If that doesn't help try 2) Transferring to a new database Create a new database: FILE > NEW DATABASE Once that is created FILE > TRANSFER Click START Then open the new database and try adding a new record.

Good to hear!
The extraction of images is still a good idea but take a bit of time to read the forum about others who have been through it. There are a number of things to consider.
