Hi all
I've not been around here in a very long time.
But when I thought of 'who knows a lot about music and how to get the best from a collection', my mind jumped to CATraxx users.
Many, many, years ago I found a standalone piece of software that could scan all my music files and would then generate playlists according to various prompts. It wasn't simply using genre as a filter. I'm not quite sure what it did or how it did it, but it produced quite interesting mixes. It was almost like an independent version of Apple's Genius playlists. Inevitably, over time, it wasn't supported or developed and became incompatible with later Windows releases etc.
I'd often searched for a similar app but never found something to match. When ChatGPT and other AI engines began to become available I tried queries in them to get playlist results, e.g. "Generate a playlist of 50 files transitioning from "XXXX" at the beginning to "YYYY" at the end." That type of approach did work, but I found it difficult (OK, impossible) to get them to limit choices to songs, tracks etc that I had as part of my music library. I couldn't upload a list of 30,000 tracks every time I wanted a playlist.
I've since seen many apps (mostly mobile rather than desktop) that claim to be "AI-based" to generate playlists, but they mainly seem to be based on my Spotify or other streaming habits, (which I don't use) and to generate lists for use in Spotify etc.
Ideally I'd like something to scan my ~30,000 music files, do some mysterious analysis of genre, mood, instrumentation, rhythm etc, and then magically generate playlists on demand of various length, with perhaps certain key files as prompts, ... etc. Sounds as though it should be right in AI's home territory!
Does anyone have experience or recommendations or alternatives in this area?
Thanks and regards
